Makes Fast, Easy, Effective Screening for Cataracts
Possible with its New Catatrac Handheld Tester
The
new Catatrac handheld cataract tester from Gulden is
ideal for multiple or mass screenings of infants,
youngsters, and the elderly. With the Catatrac unit,
testing can be performed by a wide variety of
healthcare workers. This new time-saving, utilitarian
tool from Gulden is ideal for screening elderly in
nursing homes, infants and children, and mass patient
screenings for cataracts.
ELKINS
PARK, PA -- Gulden Ophthalmics has introduced the new
Catatrac Cataract Screening Tester. The handheld
device is very easy, simple, and fast to use. It is
especially useful for screening large numbers of
patients swiftly while also offering an effective way to screen infants and
children.
The Catatrac device utilizes retroilluminiaton to
detect cataracts. The Catatrac tester is especially
useful for detecting congenital cataracts in newborns
and young children before the cataracts negatively
affect their development and learning. It is ideal for
screening elderly patients in assisted living and
nursing homes as well as community screenings at adult
day centers. With less than a half hour training,
doctors, nursing staff, and other medical workers can
easily screen for cataracts as effectively as an
ophthalmoscope in hands of an ophthalmologist or
optometrist.
Sometimes visual impairment is accepted by the elderly
and their families as an inevitable part of aging;
cataracts discovered with the Catatrac device can
usually be treated effectively, restoring vision and
quality of life for elderly patients. In rural clinics
where ophthalmic or optometric services are only
sporadically available, Catatrac can be used
effectively by local healthcare workers to perform
first-line screening.
The device is ergonomically designed for repetitive
use; its light weight and compact size (less than 8”
in length) makes it ideal for mass screenings. It is
powered by two readily obtainable AA batteries –
battery life is over 2,000 screenings due to its LED
light source, which provides extremely long life, has
a low power requirement, and no generation of heat or
wasted wavelengths
