Gulden's new C Daylight™ Glasses use a specially designed blue gel material to transform household incandescent light into accurate Illuminant C (Color temperature: 6400-7000 degrees K depending on bulb Wattage). "C" Daylight™" Specifications Article.
Glasses are worn during color vision testing, providing a "subtractive" color temperature correction to the CIE Illuminant C standard. When used in conjunction with typical clinical color vision tests such as the D-15, Ishihara, City University, etc. more accurate test results are possible.
For years the so-called "type C" or "daylight" illumination for color vision testing has been available in the form of the Macbeth Easel Lamp. Modern substitutes are relatively expensive and may provide only a limited field of illumination. They also limit the portability of accurate color testing from lane to lane, forcing the practitioner to move the patient to the test light. "C" Daylight™ Glasses are worn by the patient and can be used with any ordinary 60, 75 or 100 W soft white or standard bulb. A pair can be kept with each test in the office, thus making color vision testing a convenient process anywhere incandescent illumination is available.
