Gulden Introduces New Gulden’s New C Daylight™ Glasses-and-Lamp Kit
Most colorblindness test are affected by ambient lighting conditions; the new Gulden kit presents optimal conditions for colorblindness testing.
ELKINS PARK, PA – Gulden Ophthalmics has introduced a C Daylight™ Glasses-and- Lamp Kit that optimizes the effectiveness of colorblindness tests performed in eye care professionals’ offices.
The accuracy of any type of colorblindness test depends on the ambient lighting conditions under which the test is administered. Most pigmented test elements used in the tests are meant to be viewed under daylight C color lighting. Lighting other than this can often skew the results of the test. The new all-in-one Gulden kit is equipped with Gulden’s C Daylight Glasses, a lamp and 100 watt bulb. Gulden’s C Daylight Glasses utilize a specially designed blue gel material that transforms typical incandescent light into accurate Illuminant C light with a color temperature in the optimal 6400-7000 degrees K range.
During color vision testing, the Gulden C Daylight Glasses are worn and provide a subtractive color temperature correction that adheres to the CIE Illuminant C standard. When used in conjunction with typical clinical color vision tests such as the D-15, Ishihara, City University, and other protocols, more accurate testing results are possible.
For example, the Farnsworth D-15 dichotomous colorblindness test utilizes a set of pigmented caps or discs which have to be arranged in order by the patient. Colorblind patients have difficulty arranging the colors and make mistakes. Based on the mistakes the healthcare professional can determine the type and severity of the patient’s colorblindness – differentiating among protan, deutan, and tritan colorblindness. The accuracy of the test is dependent on proper lighting of the color pigmented elements.
The very competitively priced Gulden kit can be used as a replacement for the more expensive Macbeth Easel Lamp – which has been used in the past for colorblindness testing, but requires that the patient be directly at the site of the lamp. By employing the Gulden C Daylight Glasses instead, the patient can be seated either near the Gulden lamp or, for that matter, anywhere an ordinary 100 watt incandescent soft white or ordinary light bulb is used. Additional glasses sets are available separately – in this way each examination room where incandescent illumination is available can be outfitted with its own set, making testing easy, convenient, and saving time for the eye care professional.
In addition to the C Daylight Glasses-and-Lamp Kit, Gulden can supply colorblindness testing kits including the Farnsworth-Lanthony Combined D-15 Test Kit, the Farnsworth Dichotomous D-15 Test Kit, and the Lanthony Desaturated D-15 Test Kit.
