| Gulden Ophthalmics new Low
Vision Magnifiers Pen will assist the Low Vision patient
to write more quickly and more legibly. An eight (8)-diopter
lens on the Low
Vision Magnifiers Pen is used for magnification, making
the patient's writing easily visible.
A holder that slides up and down, thus, increasing or decreasing
the magnification and focus, holds the lens of the Low
Vision Magnifiers Pen. Additionally, the lens holder rotates
on the barrel of the Low
Vision Magnifiers Pen. Thus, providing an infinite number
of configurations of Low Vision Magnifiers Pen and lens to
customize the Low Vision Magnifiers Pen for each patient.
Using Gulden's Low
Vision Magnifiers Pen, a person can write, sign documents,
etc. without the inconvenience or embarrassment of using a
magnifying glass. The Low Vision Magnifiers Pen is compact,
slips easily into a purse or shirt pocket, and is much smaller
and lighter than a bulky magnifying glass.
The Low
Vision Magnifiers Pen is ambidextrous and is adaptable
to either left or right-handed writers.
The lens holder can be completely removed to allow for replacement
of the re-fill.
This newly designed ergonomic stand
Low
Vision Magnifiers uses in tandem the light-bending qualities
of both a lens and a reflecting prism to magnify print material
and present it at a convenient angle for the low-vision patient.
The Low
Vision Magnifier was developed by Dr. Larry Spitzberg
with a National Eye Institute Grant to produce new Low
Vision Magnifiers with these ergonomic advantages.
The Low
Vision Magnifier is made of high grade plastic, light
in weight, and optically clear, these Low Vision Magnifiers
measure 4.0 cm or a larger size of 6.5 cm. This configuration
negates the common patient complaint that they need to view
the material from directly above.
The Low
Vision Magnifier sits on the top of the printed page and
allows the image to be viewed at a normal reading angle (45
degrees) rendering a magnification of 6x. This original design
uses a 20 DS aspheric lens.
An educational feature of this Low
Vision Magnifier design is the visibility of an unmagnified
line of print viewable in the apex of the prism. This allows
a teacher to view what the pupil is viewing or to see where
he/she is on the page.
