ELKINS PARK, PA – Gulden Ophthalmics has introduced two new eyelid plate expressor instruments that help eye care professionals elevate the underside of a patient’s eyelid, provide a solid support for the eyelid, are effective aids in meibomian gland expression, and assist in several other eye exam functional measurements, all in a handy, easily accessible instrument.
The Gutierrez MG Expression Lid Plate PLUS™ Instrument can be positioned behind the anesthetized eyelid. When positioned behind the eyelid parallel to the meibomian glands, gentle digital pressure on the outer lid prompts meibomian expression. It is ergonomically angled to make it easy and comfortable for the
doctor to utilize it in a natural position when expressing the meibomian glands with the
use of the slit lamp.
With its 30mm scale, the Gutierrez instrument can also be used to measure pupil size, distance between the upper and lower eyelids, iris diameter, ptosis, horizontal visible iris diameter (HVID), pterygium, pinguecula, outer canthus to cornea plane, and other measurements. It can also be used for eyelid eversion and scleral depression.
In order to make the MG Expression Lid Plate PLUS™ instruments easily accessible and available for use at the slit lamp, Gulden provides them in a handy case that can be attached to the slit lamp via Velcro® pads or other means.The clear acrylic plastic instrument is cleanable and can be disinfected with alcohol wipes.
Gulden also markets the MG Expression Lid Plate SS™ a stainless steel version without the measurement markings that can be disinfected with alcohol wipes and can be sterilized in an autoclave; the MG Expressor Kit that includes two gel masks, an acrylic MG Expression Lid Plate PLUS™ instrument, an MG Eye Lid Expressor Roller Tool, and a package of 10 replaceable expressor roller tool covers.
